Covered steps

We went to see Sighiaşoara. What a beautiful town. It is another walled city sitting on top of a hill this time. Sighiaşoara is about 2 hours north of Braşov and again, we had a car. The countryside is beautiful. Especially this time of year when all the trees are bright green. We drove over a pass through a national forest and then into the plains on the other side. Here the farming is mostly pasture with herds of cows, sheep and goats and, of course, a few horses. They have not heard of the concept of fenced pasture so the animals are all free range. And there are no fences between the pastures and the road! The animals we met all knew to stay off the road, some just barely but off the road none the less. Most of the herds were accompanied by shepherds (or cowherds) and their dogs. The dogs are everywhere up here. Some working, some wandering and some wild. Bear says he heard that the wild dogs are very mean. They are all very scrappy looking. Not plump and petted like the ones at home. The cats are all lean a scrappy looking also, even the ones that are not feral.

Siga has two hills inside the walls. One has the town and the other a school and church. The hills are connected by a covered stairway. 174 steps! Sighiaşoara is the birthplace of Vlad Ţepeş of Count Dracula fame so there are lots of tacky souvenirs with bloody fangs. We had lunch at a wonderful restaurant that served traditional Romanian food. It was SO GOOD! On the picture of the restaurant notice that the metal deer head attached to the building is blended into the painting of the deer.
