Bug -yes! Cancer - no! Day One

This morning Bug, Bear and I left Seattle for a road trip to Austin, TX.

Last winter and spring Bug had Hodgkins Lymphoma. She got great medical care and lots of support from family and friends of all of us. She decided that to celebrate her cure she wanted to go to Austin to ride her bike in the Team Livestrong Challenge. This is a fundraiser for the Livestrong Foundation which emphasizes support for people with cancer. They’ve channeled their energy into programs that address emotional support, fertility, financial assistance, post-treatment exercise programs and much more. The Challenge is next Sunday, the 21st. If you want to vicariously participate with us wear violet, the color for Hodgkins Lymphoma, next Sunday. Team Positive Emily Spirit will be riding from 8:00 until 10:00 Central Time. Bug's partner, Lefty, is flying down Thursday to join us. She will be riding with Bug and Bear. Panda and Chalupa are flying in Friday and the 3 of us will compose the cheering squad.

So anyway, the drive. Seattle to Boise - long but beautiful. We actually ran into rain as soon as we crossed the pass. How odd, rain in Eastern Washington and none in Western. The rain didn't last long but we were under cloud cover the whole way. From the pass to past Indian John Hill we followed an extra wide load - it looked like part of a bridge at 35 mph. Yuk! On the brighter side there is lots more to see at 35 than at 70.

Check in tomorrow for the Boise to Moab leg.
